Merrick State Park
Merrick State Park is located along
the beautiful Mississippi River north of Fountain City. Here you can fish or dock your boat at your campsite. The marshy back waters are home for
egrets, herons, muskrats and otters. The CD-Rom offers a review of the scenic campground at Merrick, with photos of 12 of the recommended campsites, many of which are located right along the riverbank.
There are printable maps of the park and campground, with photos of the boat launch, canoe launch, a small beach near the River Trail, and Nature Center, and information about the park's hiking trails, excellent fishing and boating opportunities, area wildlife, and other nearby attractions. I especially recommend visits to nearby Buffalo City and Alma, beautiful river towns where I spent a lot of my childhood vacation time. And be sure to take your boat out to the beautiful islands along the main channel of the river, many of which have their own private beaches.
