Chequamegon National Forest - Lake Namekagon Campground

View of the Beach at Lake Namekagon Campground

Lake Namekagon is one of the most popular of the federal campgrounds in the Chequamegon National Forest. The lakeside campsites are difficult to obtain on weekends. The best times to arrive and look for a choice site are early on weekdays. 3227-acre Lake Namekagon has good fishing for walleye, musky, northern pike, bass, and panfish. Motor-boats and jet-skis are allowed here, so there is a lot of activity on the lake. The campground, with two loops - Upper and Lower, is in a hardwood and hemlock forest on Namkagon Lake that is the headwaters for the Namekagon River. Boats may be tied up along the lake's rocky shoreline within the campground. The CD-Rom offers a review of the campground, with descriptions of the campsites and photos of 6 recommended sites, photos of the beach, boat landing, picnic area and shelter, and fishing pier, a printable map with information about campsite sizes and driveways for RV/Trailer owners, directions, and information about nearby attractions.
